Composting is a must if we really want to ensure our gardens are going to do their best. It may be a little messy and time consuming, but our plants will be thanking us with beautiful blossoms or a healthy harvest. It’s also a great way to recycle some of our kitchen scraps that would otherwise just go into the trash can. Below are some great tips that could help us when it comes to composting in our backyards.

If we want to do everything possible to get the best results from our gardens then having a compost pile is a must have. These are some great tips that can help us out!

  1. Nitrogen can be formed by the help of grass clippings. Mix it with the brown material for forming carbon. They are both helpful for rich compost. The grass make plants to be compact, slow down with its growth and plants may stop to grow completely.

  2. More people are using the animal products or pet droppings as fertilizer. Fats from animals are also the ones they use. They will all just attract insects and bring some diseases.

  3. Always remember that newspaper or white paper can be great substances in making good compost. The shredded ones can make the process faster.

  4. Just keep in mind that worms are a good sign that our compost pile is doing well.

  5. Sparingly, ashes help a lot in adding to your compost bin. They are known to be alkaline and can affect the pH. Contrary to this, oak leaves and pine needles are known as acidic materials.

  6. You do not want the plants that have experienced the effects of pesticides or herbicides. If these are used on the lawn clippings or weeds, those can be thrown out.

  7. The breaking down of the compost need to have a balanced diet of carbon and nitrogen. Manure, grass clippings and food scraps are good sources of nitrogen. Hay wood chips, dead leaves and shredded newspaper are known to form a better source of carbon. It must be in equal portions to take effect better.

  8. Seaweed and algae are both helpful to a compost pile. There should be no salt so make sure to raise it off before adding.

  9. You must begin with one pallet on the ground. The wooden pallets should be cleaned to form perfect bins. To make your bin ready, add additional pallets to make the support strong.

 

The easy tips are all yours. Make your own compost to be sure the plants get the right nutrients. Do not just settle for the artificial ones. Go natural and make compost!
